Privacy Policy for Lingua

Last updated 24 August 2026

Lingua is a language-learning app for Burmese speakers learning Thai. This policy explains exactly what the app collects, what it does not, and how to have your data removed.

Who is responsible

Lingua is published by Zin Min Htun (trading as Notovo AI). For any question about this policy or about your data, contact zinmintoun@gmail.com.

The short version

What the app collects

An anonymous account, created automatically

The first time you open Lingua, it creates an anonymous account with Firebase Authentication so your progress has somewhere to live. This account is a random identifier. It is not linked to your name, email address or phone number, and you are never asked to sign in.

Your learning progress

So your progress survives reinstalling the app or moving to a new phone, the following is stored against that identifier:

DataWhy
Languages you speak and are learningChooses which course and interface language to show
Current stage and daily XP goalRestores where you are in the course
XP, current streak, longest streak, last active dayKeeps your streak and totals correct across devices
Hearts remaining and when they last refilledRestores the heart limit correctly
XP per skill, and review scheduling for each phraseDrives spaced repetition, so the app knows what you are due to review

If you sign in with Google

Signing in is optional and exists only so your progress can follow you to another device. If you choose to, Google provides your account's display name, email address and profile picture. Signing in links your existing anonymous account rather than replacing it, so nothing is lost.

If you appear on the leaderboard

The leaderboard is public within the app. If you take part, your display name and weekly XP are visible to other Lingua learners on the same course. If you do not want your name shown to others, do not sign in — anonymous accounts have no name to display.

Your microphone

Speaking exercises ask you to say a phrase aloud, so the app requests microphone permission. Recognition runs entirely on your device using Android's built-in speech recogniser. Only the text it produces is compared, on your device, against the expected answer.

No recording is uploaded, transmitted or stored. The audio is never sent to us or to anyone else. If you deny the microphone permission, every other part of the app continues to work; only speaking exercises are unavailable.

Advertising

Lingua shows optional rewarded video ads through Google AdMob — you choose to watch one to regain hearts. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID to select and measure ads. You can reset or delete that ID at any time in Settings → Google → Ads on your Android device. Ads are not shown to Premium subscribers.

Analytics

Firebase Analytics records aggregate usage, such as which screens are opened and how often lessons are completed, so we can tell which parts of the course are working. This is reported in aggregate and is not used to identify you.

Subscriptions

Lingua offers an optional Premium subscription that removes the heart limit and ads. All learning content is free; Premium changes only those limits. Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details — the app only receives confirmation from Google Play that a subscription is active.

Who your data is shared with

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising or marketing. It is processed only by the providers that make the app work:

Data may be processed on Google servers outside your country. It is encrypted in transit using TLS.

How long it is kept

Progress is kept while your account exists, so the app can restore it. Leaderboard entries are per-week and age out as new weeks begin. Delete the app's data or ask us to delete your account and the stored progress goes with it.

Deleting your data

You have two options:

Children

Lingua is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the current version is always available at this address.
